Well, Merry Christmas to you and yours. Im sitting here Christmas morning enjoying and reflecting on what an amazing holiday season we have had.

Today was a fun little adventure up to Santa Ysabel to check out the Santa Ysabel Nature Center that opened today (December 14, 2019).

Wet Winter Hiking, don’t do it. The fact is that when it rains many of our popular trails pay the price when we hike them, muddy trails mean deep ruts from hiking through puddles or wearing down and unnaturally.

November 15^th through 17^th had us set up at Julian Farm and Orchard for the annual Modern Mountain Man Rendezvous an event held to support Triple B Adventures a veteran nonprofit that gets veterans outside hiking hunting fishing and camping.

The Laguna Mountain Man Rendezvous Club is interesting group of living history reenactors in east San Diego County who specialize in muzzle loading and traditional marksmanship.

With Halloween near it was perfect timing for our good friend Lance to come down from Mt Laguna and share some of the spooky lore the local back country and desert hold for us.

Day two of the Dusy Ershim trail was a dusy for me, take in the usual process of waking up after a day of four wheeling and add in being sick. I still had a ragging sinus infection and was kind of like a zombie, after getting out of my hammock I didn’t even eat I just pathetically struck camp. I really didn’t even realize how cold it was even with the frost on everything it was like I was in auto pilot.

After wrapping up our adventures in auto repair (you really need to read the Rubicon story if you have not) we headed south down the mighty highway 99. It was interesting to be back on the highway crusing down central California to our next stop. Today’s portion of the trip had us going to Shaver Lake a popular spot with my friends where the vacation often.

The upside of turning around was that Bob’s Jeep was still drivable and we could manage an egress the way we came. The weather really changed on a dime and we went from cloudy to rainy to probably a half inch of snow and going in about two hours.
