Stay current, confident, and prepared in the backcountry. The Wilderness First Responder Recertification course is a fast-paced, hands-on training designed for individuals with a current (or recently expired) WFR certification. Over 3 days (two separate weekends), you’ll refresh essential wilderness medical skills, review the latest protocols, and practice realistic scenarios to ensure you’re ready to respond when professional medical help is hours—or days—away.
Who It’s For:
Outdoor professionals, guides, educators, and adventure enthusiasts who already hold a WFR certification and need to renew before it expires.
Certification:
Successful completion renews your Wilderness First Responder credential for an additional 3 years.
Prerequisites: Current WFR certification from a program with a minimum of 70 hours of instruction including a minimum of 45 hours of in-person instruction.
This course will be taught in 3 days over two weekends with an on-line portion for the Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR.

- Wilderness First Responder Recert Certification (good for 3 years)
- Epinephrine Auto-Injector Use and Administration Certification (good for 2 years)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification (good for 2 years)
- Emergency Oxygen Administration Certification (good for 2 years)

COURSE FORMAT:
Check-in is between 7:30 AM and 7:45 AM on the first day. On subsequent days, please plan on arriving by 7:45 AM to begin class promptly at 8:00 AM. Each day, class will begin promptly at 8:00 AM and run until approximately 5:00 PM depending on class size, questions, and breaks, so be prepared for the course end time to run longer.
The first two days (1st weekend) the course is held outdoors rain or shine and includes lectures, integrated skills practice, and scenarios. The third day (2nd weekend) the course is held in the Kit Fox Outfitters classroom located at 780 Main St., Ste. D Ramona, CA 9206e. We recommend appropriate comfortable outdoor clothing that will get dirty, we will be on the ground simulating wilderness injuries. It is recommended to bring a junk T-shirt for the possibility of moulage (fake blood) getting on it and/or using it to cut into an improvised splint.
Attendance is mandatory for the duration of the course and participants are required to attend all lectures, integrated skills practice, and scenarios.
COURSE LOGISTICS:
The entire course is held outdoors on private property, the Broken Oak Ranch (BOR) located in Warner Springs, California, unless otherwise stated. The BOR is a 118-acrea parcel of land situated among mountain valleys and plains located at 3600’ elevation in Northern San Diego County. It is in a rural area about 30 minutes from the nearest services.
We do offer no additional cost primitive on-stie camping (no electricity, showers, running water or RV hookups). This is NOT mandatory and there are no set campgrounds. The area is an open space in the meadow that can be used for tent camping; campervans; truck campers; travel trailers; camper trailers; fifth-wheel trailers; pop-up campers and RVs of various sizes. If you choose to camp, please RSVP an estimated time you plan to arrive, especially those arriving on Friday evening to ensure the gates remain open.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
All cancellation requests are REQUIRED to be received in writing via email to kitfox@kitfoxoutfitters.com. Refunds will be provided based on the criteria listed below:
- Requests received greater than 15 days prior to the course start date will be refundable, minus a $75.00 fee.
- Requests received less than 15 days prior to the course start date is NON-REFUNDABLE.
RESCHEDULE POLICY:
Reschedule requests are REQUIRED to be received in writing via email to kitfox@kitfoxoutfitters.com. Eligibility will be determined on a case-by-case basis with an administrative fee of $25.00. Approved requests will only be rescheduled one time. If the rescheduled appointment is missed, there will be no alternative rescheduling options and NO REFUNDS.
